February Nail Polish Favourites

Hey Essie Lovers!

I'm sorry I've been quite absent lately. My big kids having a week off school made me take a break from this blog and social media, but then I found because I hadn't done any swatching or behind the scenes blog work/writing, I couldn't keep on schedule last week either. I'm hoping that things will be back to normal now. Yesterday I shared a massive grey comparison. Since it was such a big post I didn't get it up on Monday. Definitely check it out if you haven't yet! And today I've got my favourite nail polishes I wore in February to share with you.

I don't actually have a ton of polishes to share with you because I feel like I have to be REALLY picky about my faves and only share the ones I absolutely LOVED. Because honestly, I basically like/love every polish I wear, but sometimes a polish's colour or formula or the way it makes me feel really stands out above the rest, so I made sure to keep a running list of those polishes this month.

Mesmerize

Technically this was a January fave, but I didn't write a favourites post for January because this would have been the only polish on that list. So I'm throwing it in now. This polish I picked up on a whim because I found it on sale at Winner's and I didn't own it so I thought "why not?" From the moment I applied this beauty to my nails I had to pick my jaw up off the table. It has such a great formula. Stellar formula, actually! It's creamy and opaque in one coat. It's a deep blue that looks almost like a bright cobalt in the sunshine and I dug it so so much. If only allllllll Essie formula's were like this. (Read full post on Mesmerize here)

Shades On

Oh gosh. This colour STOLE my heart when I swatched it! It's from the new Spring 2016 collection. To be honest, that whole collection surprised me and I really really loved it. I didn't think I was going to. I told you when the press releases were out that the collection underwhelmed me. I also thought that they were a weird mix of colours and a lot of them were very Un-Spring-like. But then they came and I played with them and I loved their formulas and colours! This colour was my absolute favourite from the collection and I didn't want to take it off. I don't have any other Essie purples like it. I think it might be somewhat similar to OPI's Lost My Bikini in Molokini but Go Polished showed that Shades On is actually lighter. The formula of this one is a creamy, opaque one-coater as well.

Groove Is In the Heart

This pink has become one of my all-time fave pinks. I freaking love it! It was introduced to me by Crystal at Love Fresh Paint. We became friends through social media and blogging and when she sent me the pic of her wearing this colour I was like "WOAH. Yes!" so I picked it up later that week and I haven't regretted that decision one bit. It's so much more wearable than I thought it would be with a slight hint of peachiness. (Read full post here)

Who Is The Boss

Out of all the polishes I loved this month, this one might be my absolute favourite. I'm so happy I finally caved a picked it up. I wasn't going to, because I thought it might be a dupe for Maximillian Strasse Her but as you can see here, it's not! Yessssss. I really love how this light bright blue-green grey looks on my skin tone. The formula is a 3 coater, but I don't even care because I loved how this looked so much.

UN-Favourites

I've never done this before, but I actually had a polish that I tried out for the first time that I was super unhappy with so I thought I would include it as an un-favourite of mine.

Miss Matched

I bought this online because swatches showed it as sort of a pinky-mauve nude and I thought it was so pretty. I decided to finally try it when I was watching a movie and hanging out with my husband one evening and spent about an hour painting my nails (which is much longer than I usually take). And when I was done I had this streaky sheer mess (the pic doesn't seem to show how bad it looked in person). I was so mad that I had spent all that time and it looked TERRIBLE. I left it on the next day but then I just couldn't keep it on any longer than that.

This polish has a thin consistency and is super streaky. Even after 3 coats it still looked patchy and uneven and 3 coats of polish is my limit, you know? Maybe if I applied Fill the Gap first or if I tried 4 coats of polish it would look better, but at this point in time, I regret buying it. If you google swatches of "Essie Miss Matched" it looks beautiful so that's what's most disappointing I think.

What were your fave polishes of the month? Did you have any un-favourites/disappointing polishes like I did? Spill the beans, I'd love to hear about it in the comments!

I like that you included an un-favourite too, so we know what to avoid.
I just bought the three shades I wanted from Essie's Spring Collection today (Shades On, Off Tropic and High Class Affair) so I'm excited to play with those!
Also got four from OPI's New Orleans Collection (I Manicure For Beads, Rich Girls and Po-Boys, I'm Sooo Swamped! and Show Us Your Tips) I've already tried the last one, which chipped on me on the first day! I'm really starting to think that Essie's Grow Stronger doesn't adhere well with OPI polishes, because I never have chipping issues with Essies normally and no one else seems to complain about OPI's chipping, so needs further investigating really! :P

I agree with Emma, thanks for sharing your un-favorites, that helps a lot too. I really need Shades On, purples are my weakness and I feel like I need to have all the purples! After your post on Play Date, I've had it on my mind and every time I stop at Target or a drugstore I have to go check it out but I haven't pulled the trigger yet. Soon!!

Hi! I loved the unfavourite too- that's hilarious that you called it that. Meanwhile I'd love to hear your opinions on some of the pinky sheers Essie has done, the pinks that are less opaque than a Romper Room or Fiji.... i'm hoping to pick up Spaghetti Strap if I can find it-- and wondering about dupes. Just worried Sugar Daddy will look totally clear on me... Maybe an idea for the future. Thank you so much- love your blog!

Emma - I tried OPI's "She's A Bad Muffaletta" from the same collection and absolutely loved it! I didn't use a base coat and think I used an Essie top coat (I did this mani at a friends birthday with all her stuff, not mine) but it lasted a decent amount of time. I think I wore it a good 5 days before removing it and had no major chipping on my left hand.

Mrs W - purples have never really been on my radar too much before, but this winter was all about the grey-purples and now as we move into Spring I'm really zoning in on more purple shades. I have a couple coming in my next order, so I will definitely be doing a purple comparison soon!

Hi Rosie! Thanks so much for your comments! I most definitely will do a sheer pink comparison very soon. I have 3 in my collection and just ordered another one, so when that comes I'll put them to the test. Sorry none of them are Spaghetti Strap though.
