Essie Winter 2014 Jiggle Hi Jiggle Lo Collection - My Picks & Comparisons

Last year Essie's Winter collection called Jiggle Hi Jiggle Lo, seemed like an odd one: coral-pink, melon, red, white and silver. Some of them were definite Winter shades while others seemed more like they belonged in a Spring collection. To me, it was a classic Essie collection. There were sheers pinks, reds and a neutral and that's basically what Essie is known for!

I didn't actually pick up any polishes from this collection when it first came out because I had put myself on a polish "no-buy". But from the comfort of my computer I was admiring two shades in particular: Tuck It In My Tux and Double Breasted Jacket.

While browsing at Shopper's Drug Mart early this Summer, I came across an Essie clearance rack that just so happened to have those EXACT two nail polishes on it, so I had to scoop them up.

Tuck It In My Tux

I had always wanted Essie's Marshmallow but didn't own it yet, so I was super happy to add Tuck It In My Tux to my collection. Of course, now I DO own it, so I'll show you how they compare below. I wore this polish once or twice this summer and I absolutely loved it every time I did. If you aren't into polishes that don't get completely opaque and show a bit of your nail line underneath, then this polish won't be for you, but I'm so into it. It makes your nails look very clean, classic and pretty.

I decided to do my swatch with Fill the Gap as my base coat, because I actually did the comparison photos first and didn't use base and I really didn't like the results. I highly suggest using that base for this polish (or a different ridge filling base coat). It looks so much better than without. Tuck It In My Tux is sheer and streaky on the first coat, but after 3 coats it has that see through cloudy-white squishy look that Marshmallow has, but it's even more so. Because of that, streaks can be more noticeable.

Tuck It In My Tux vs. Marshmallow

3 coats of Tuck It In My Tux and Marshmallow with no base coat
Like I said earlier, for this comparison I used no base coat. Tuck it in my Tux is more sheer than Marshmallow. What you see in the pics is both polishes at  3 coats - Marshmallow is definitely more opaque. Tuck It In My Tux still has streaks and is more see-through.

I tried the comparison again, this time with Fill the Gap as my base coat. At 3 coats, both these polishes look much more smooth and even. Much better! Marshmallow is a brighter white and more opaque. It does retain it's squishiness but Tuck It In My Tux is definitely more see through and must have a touch of beige in it because it's not pure white.

Double Breasted Jacket

I have such a heart for pink based reds. I LOVE 'EM. I kept seeing this polish pop up on my Instagram back in the Spring, so finally I was like "that's it! I'm getting this colour!" So I was more than happy to discover it on a clearance shelf.

Essie does reds so incredibly well. This polish is so creamy and opaque and gorgeous! I could very faintly see my nail line after one coat so I did 2 coats. It's very nice and self-leveling and shiny.

She's Pampered vs. Altitude Attitude vs. Double Breasted Jacket vs. Style Hunter

Like I said...I have a thing for pink based reds (and also red based pinks), so I had a lot of options to compare to.

In the photo, you can't tell any of them apart because my camera has a hard time capturing the subtleties of reds, but in person She's Pampered is the oddball out. It's much redder than the rest. Altitude Attitude, Double Breasted Jacket and Style Hunter all looked identical though. Style Hunter may be slightly more pinkish, but not by much.  They all had great formulas, but after 2 coats I could still slightly see my nail line on Style Hunter (I think it's more of a crelly formula rather than a true creme). If you like Double Breasted Jacket but can't find it anywhere, then Altitude Attitude from the new Winter 2015 collection is a great dupe.

Since buying these polishes, I've come across others from this collection on sale at Winner's - Bump Up the Pumps, Back In the Limo, Jiggle Hi Jiggle Lo, and Jump In My Jumpsuit, but none of them really made me reach out and throw them in my cart. Except for Jump In My Jumpsuit. I really almost threw that one in because it is SUCH a gorgeous deep juicy red, but you all know I have a ton of those shades. I was this close to doing it because it was so frickin' pretty! But I held it together and saved my $5.99.

What were your favourite shades from this collection? Any that you picked up and loved? Or any that disappointed you?

I have bump up the pumps, jiggle hi jiggle lo and back in the limo. I can't stand the formula for back in the limo but bump up the pumps is AMAZING! Pretty good wear time as well. I haven't worn jiggle hi jiggle lo yet though!
