Coming Soon : Essie Retro Revival

Tuesday, December 1, 2015 5 comments

My Wednesday post is going up early because there was big Essie news revealed today and I wanted to share it in case you missed it!

Yesterday, Essie Canada teased on Instagram that they had a surprise that would be revealed on CutePolish's youtube channel and today we got to see it! In honour of Essie's 35th anniversary, they are re-releasing 6 vintage polishes that have been discontinued, that fans love and want brought back. Watching the video you will see, they are true vintage shades. Very sheer, pearlescent and in shades of nude, pink and red, which Essie has always been known for. To be honest, none of these polishes are piquing my interest, however, CutePolish didn't get to reveal the 6th polish. That will be revealed by Essie Canada on December 10th. I have a sneaking suspicion it may be the ultimate coveted discontinued Essie polish Starry Starry Night. Wouldn't that be amazing?!

The bottle lids have gold stars printed on them for the occasion, and other than the very subtle lace they printed on this year's Wedding collection, I have never seen an Essie lid that wasn't pure white. That may also be another clue to Starry Starry Night's re-release.

The shades being released in this collection are:
  • Life of the Party (red with a pink pearl finish) from 2002
  • Bikini with a Martini (iridescent pink with gold shimmer - sheer) from 2006
  • Birthday Suit (cream nude - sheer) from 1981. One of the first 12 released!
  • Sequin Sash (glittery bronze - sheer) from 2005
  • Cabana Boy (pearly white) from 2005

These will be available for pre-sale on December 11th on Amazon.ca and will be released in stores in both the U.S. and Canada on January 5, 2016.

What do you think of this retro revival collection? I will be watching to see which polish is the last one in this collection and if it's Starry Starry Night like I think it is, I will be pre-ordering it for sure.

*Edited to add: Just found this description on Influenster. Essie always writes these little stories that have the polish names in the story. Look what name popped up at the end!!!

"Who needs cake? This cheeky, delicate nude is so irresistibly delicious, just light some candles and you can be the dessert. Here comes the life of the party. In a cocktail dress topped with a sequin sash for a touch of Vegas glamour. No doubt half the room is imagining her in her birthday suit – it’s not called The Strip for nothing. Anything goes in this town. Look over there: an it girl in a bikini with a martini is flirting with a hunky cabana boy. Essie’s advice? Sit back and take in the celeb action from your corner table, this is one heck of a starry starry night."

**UPDATE December 11, 2015: I was right! Essie is re-releasing Starry Starry Night! Click here to pre-order this collection on amazon.ca or run to the store and pick this up when it's released January 5, 2016!

That description you added definitely seems like a clue, and a mean tease if it's not Starry Starry Night! I wasn't excited by the 5 shares either, and actually dislike a couple. Also, it bugs me a little that out of 35 years of nail colors, all but one are from a 4 year time period in the early 2000s. They couldn't bring back one from the 90s?!

I agree with you Erin. I would have preferred a bigger variety of polishes - not so many sheers and colors from different years like you said.

Viva La Vespa, Greenport, Nightcap, Barbuda Banana, Urban Express...right there is a rainbow of completely different colors that people have been coveting for years. If that "SSN" tagline is just a tease, there are going to be a lot of angry North American customers, I think. I'm not even an essie fan but SSN is the ultimate unicorn. I don't even care that it'll be a repromote or that I have CBL Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star or an original Orly Silent Night. Must have.

Samantha M. YESSS! There's a bunch of colours you listed that I've never heard of, but googled swatches and I completely agree! Those are colours to get excited about! Or how about Shine of The Times?
