Essie Sable Collar

When I saw swatches online of the Winter 2013 collection Shearling Darling, Sable Collar was not one of the polishes that caught my eye.  It should have been because that shimmer is frickin' gorgeous, but for some reason I wasn't that into it at the time.  Until it started popping up and style bloggers were wearing this color on their tips.  Oh man! The interplay of this shimmery cocoa plum against burgundy, gold, and cozy taupe sweaters made me crush hard.

I finally ordered this one at the beginning of January and have been so happy with it.  The application of it is absolutely smooth and perfect. The formula is self-leveling which is all kinds of awesome.  I painted two or three nails before I realized I remembered I wanted to wrap my tips in color.  Usually you should do that as part of painting your nail, while it's still wet, but my nails were already starting to set.  I applied polish anyways and what started out as thick and blobby and obviously not part of the original paint job, quickly leveled out and became perfectly smooth.  Love that.

Essie Sable Collar vs. Essie Damsel In a Dress

The beautiful shimmer in this polish along with the sort of plum tones made me think of Essie's Damsel in a Dress which I had in my stash.  I swatched the two side by side for a comparison.  Sable Collar is definitely more of a dusty brown with rosy shimmer while Damsel in a Dress is a more of a deep current (much more purpley) with magenta/silver shimmer. (Swatching Damsel made me remember how much I love that polish.  I will definitely have to wear it soon!)

I was also dying to see Sable Collar matte suspected.  AH-mazing.

I really love how Sable Collar reads as a brown but not a deep stark brown.  The rosy shimmer and purple undertones are perfect.  Great color.
